James K. Barker follows the flow of his creative instincts. In this, he is artistically uncompromising and travels down the path of many a genre to find the gold in individual songs. At heart, he is a singer-songwriter, inspired by emotive artists such as Radiohead and the Smiths, but has been known to perform with full-bands to envision his work. He is also a fond enthusiast of sixties rock and pop, which can be heard in the vintage production aesthetic of his records and art style.
To date, James has released 8 music videos, 6 extended plays and a plethora of singles, all fuelled by an unrelenting work ethic and desire to create. He has entertained audiences with full length sets at venues and festivals around Winchester, and Southampton, UK, such as the Roebuck Inn, and is a regular performer at the Railway Inn’s esteemed open mic night. Recently he performed an acoustic set live on Radio Odstock, a station local to his hometown of Salisbury, UK. With a father who played in many bands around the county of Wiltshire, James was exposed to Live and Recorded music from a young age. From this, an everlasting passion grew and during his teenage years, James spent many an evening in his bedroom recording songs with whatever instruments and microphones he could find. Since then, he has graduated from the University of Winchester with a first-class music degree, played in various bands, and has a diverse list of live sound and recording accomplishments. James’ acclaimed hip-hop infused hit ‘Synthia Goodbye’ was recently featured on the compilation album ‘Sounds of Southampton Vol. 4’ alongside other artists local to the South of England. This has allowed him to break into new communities and fanbases as well as represent his local area on the national stage. Fans are excited for a long-anticipated debut album which has been hinted at through cryptic guerrilla marketing and is set to release in 2026. |
